Tenure In Office

Progressives strongly advocate and faithfully practice freedom of opportunity, equal access to office and the broadest possible participation of all its members.
The Constitution clearly stipulates this principle and mandates this practice. "Any member of the Convention, clergy or lay, male or female, shall be eligible to hold any office of the Convention." (Article V, Section 2). "Officers of the Convention and of the Auxiliaries or Departments of the Convention shall not succeed themselves in office consecutively more than three (3) times until at least one year has elapsed, beginning in 1990." (Article V, Section 5 as amended in 1986). Until 1990, the tenure limitation was two years.

The Progressive National Baptist Convention is the best in the Black Baptist family for its fulfillment of Baptist democratic principles and tenets. It dutifully demonstrates, "the priesthood of all believers."
